Culturally sensitive images

At Report Harmful Content, we recognise that the experiences of Muslim and BME women facing intimate image abuse can be unique. For many, intimate images may include photos without a hijab or holding hands with a partner. While these may not meet the legal definition of ‘intimate images,’ we know that many women in the UK experience harm when such photos or videos are misused.

Perpetrators often exploit these images to manipulate and control, sharing them without consent on social media, with friends and family, or using the threat of exposure to exert control. This can lead to serious and lasting consequences, including ostracisation from family and community.

If you have had images shared on social media that feel deeply personal or private to you but do not fall under the legal definition of intimate image abuse, please know that support is still available. The Report Harmful Content service can assist in reporting cases of harassment and privacy violations to social media platforms. We review the content, provide additional context, and highlight why keeping such images online can have serious real-world consequences. You are not alone—help is here.
